They're dying out.  The NYT, in their funny way, makes a good guess as to why, while tossing in a sweet back-handed slap to the Christian Right:


The very tenets of Zoroastrianism could be feeding its demise, many adherents said in interviews.  Zoroastrians believe in free will, so in matters of religion they do not believe in compulsion.  They do not proselytize.  They can pray at home instead of going to a temple.  While there are priests, there is no hierarchy to set policy.  And their basic doctrine is a universal ethical precept: “good thoughts, good words, good deeds.


Huh.  I did not know that.

      When I was in high school in the early sixties, Zaroastrianism was one of ten religions my Humanities teacher had us study. It seemed so removed then. It didn't seem to have a hugh following at that time either. Now its simple doctrines sound a lot like Budhism. I think a lot of Unitarian Universalist could embrace its positive pronouncements.
