Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh today attacked actor Michael J. Fox for inserting his halting voice into the U.S. Senate campaign in Missouri, suggesting Fox was "acting" in a commercial where he's shown shaking while endorsing the importance of stem cell research.
"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease," Limbaugh told listeners today, encouraging them to go online to watch Fox's commercial, which first aired Oct. 21 in St. Louis during a World Series game. "He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act."
"This is the only time I've ever seen Michael J. Fox portray any of the symptoms of the disease he has," Limbaugh said. "He can barely control himself."
I believe Rush when he says he's never seen Fox portray any of his disease symptoms. It does not surprise me that Rush does not watch Congressional testimony, despite being the nation's most prominent conservative pundit. Had he bothered, he would have seen Michael J. Fox in all of his Parkinson's glory, begging Congress to pass embryonic stem cell research, in 2000—6 years before the current midterm elections.
Unfortunately, I am unable to locate a video of that testimony on the web. If any of you come across it, please post it as a comment to this piece, or post it on any of your own web sites. Having searched YouTube, GoogleVideo, etc., with no results, and also vividly remembering Fox's degeneration in that testimony on TV, I imagine I am not the only researcher out there looking for a copy. It may come to my purchasing the proof from C-Span, which is really quite worth it, considering how shameful Limbaugh's smear is.
Here is a video of Fox before he started making these political ads for Democratic candidates. He is politely critical of Bush for his veto of the embryonic stem cell bill. He is not endorsing a candidate, or the Democratic Party, in any way. Here is an interview he gave Missouri's Ray Preston. I hate to say this, but he was never a good enough actor to fake what appears here. These clips are harrowing, startling evidence of a still-young man in deep physical decline, despite his outwardly sunny disposition.
Here is the video Fox made for Democratic Senatorial candidate Claire McCaskill of Missouri , that got Limbaugh into such a dither. Here is a similar ad he taped for Democrat Ben Cardin, fighting for a Senate seat in Maryland. What clearly got Limbaugh up in arms was not Fox's "acting", but the fact of how simple and devastating these ads really are.
I know I shouldn't be shocked anymore, but it still amazes me that Rush Limbaugh can attack a man suffering from Parkinson's Disease for.....exhibiting the symptoms of a man suffering from Parkinson's Disease!
Later in the show, Limbaugh attacked Democratic Congressional candidate, and Iraq war leg amputee, Tammy Duckworth, for grossly exaggerating her inability to walk. He reserved particular vitriol for drug-addicted, right-wing sociopath Rush Limbaugh, for his inability to show a pulse.

I just do not understand how this man gets an audience! He is unbelievable!--BUT, the idiots who call into the show are as wacko as he is, agreeing that Michael's illness must be just a performance, and how "wrong it is that Rush is being attacked." I force myself occassionally to listen to the "other side." The speak about how the embryo stem cell offer false hope to sick people, while adult stem cell reseach is the only proven reseach that offers possiblities. That say all that in much uglier terms. I vote that we take Rush off the air. Reply to this
