I was a little nervous, because in the last local election, the New York City mayor's race in 2005, my precinct couldn't locate me, and I was asked to cast a provisional ballot. Provisional ballots, apparently, are hardly ever counted. This time, they found me, and I was able to vote normally.
I'll admit, I was not looking forward to getting into another tussle with the poll workers over whether I was eligible or not. The fact that there are no close races in New York in my district made the slog even less enticing, since my vote didn't feel very necessary. But with a mix of lazy shame, and eventual pride, I dragged myself to the polls.
You should, too. If you are registered to vote, GO VOTE. NOW. STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING, AND GO VOTE. If you are at work, the minute you leave for the day, DO NOT GO HOME.
GO VOTE! Then go home, and sweat this one out with us!
No one should ever feel required to say who they voted for, but I don't mind. I proudly voted for Democrat Eliot Spitzer for New York State Governor. He will walk away with it, as will Democrat Andrew Cuomo for Attorney General, whom I also voted for. I held my nose and voted for scandal-plagued Alan Hevesi for state comptroller. And Hillary Clinton, that little-known candidate for Senate? I instead voted for the real progressive in the race, Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins. Frankly, I dislike the Green Party. But I dislike Hillary Clinton's pro-business, pro-war "triangulating" even more.
Stay tuned throughout Election Night! And Go Vote!

I voted! And, excitedly, in my little blue precinct in a red state, it was pretty packed. So, crossing my fingers big time! Reply to this
