The big difference between tonight's debate and New Hampshire? In N.H., Edwards chose to team up w/Obama to bash Clinton. Tonight, he's teaming up with Hillary, with Barack stuck between the two of them. Not sure why.
I suppose all the talk of Edwards devoting the rest of his failed candidacy to play an assist for Barack is probably overdone, and that he really is making a last stand in South Carolina, for whatever it counts.

I think, after watching tonight, that Edwards still wants to compete. Clearly, he's the extreme long shot, but on the other hand, he still has something to contribute to these debates. He demonstrates poise, clarity and passion, and he continues to speak most forcefully about the kinds of systemic abuses I think most Americans would like to see addressed. One can certainly make strong points against his voting record in the Senate; I think it's also fair to question what he'd actually accomplish as president. But I do think that he helps to keep policy on the table in this campaign, instead of mere opportunistic sniping (read: guaranteed cheap press) between two hundred million dollar political war machines.
