By now, everyone's heard it: the Brokeback Mountain star is dead, possibly of an overdose. Ledger was a raw, still-developing talent who gave two great performances on film: Monster's Ball, and Brokeback Mountain. With the latter, he accomplished what many more mature artists strive for, and hardly any achieve: the advancement of a civil rights movement. That feat alone sets him apart from the pack, as we contemplate what might have been.

I know I will be alone in remembering his performance in "Ten Things I Hate About You" with Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but it was one of those odd teen romances that was better than it ever should have been. He invested his character with mystery and a hint of menace that was intriguing and set him apart from other young "pretty boys". I can't wait to see his turn as the Joker in the upcoming Batman film. He will be missed. He also left behind a two year old daughter, Matilda. Reply to this

I hate all the speculation about suicide and depression without any evidence and the sudden "acquaintances" of Ledger's speaking to the press about whether or not he was morose enough to take his own life. I even saw a comment in the NY Post that said "Michelle Williams killed Heath Ledger". Also, a lot of "adios, fudgepacker" type comments. What is wrong with people? Reply to this
