Ok, really from yesterday, not today, but I thought it worth sharing.  A reader comments:

No offense to the blog-at-large, but I find these larger issues more compelling than the thinly veiled "Obama Rocks" posts... and by the way, I too think Obama rocks.  I just feel like there is so much going on right now that we need to talk about, moving beyond the endorsement of any one candidate.

Guilty as charged.  Back in the 2006 midterms, I think in general this blog did a better job covering a multitude of issues.  Since the midterm campaign went on longer than this primary season, and covered so many different candidates in so many different regions, invariably that situation prevented this blog from becoming no more than a megaphone for one particular candidate.  Check out the archives if anyone's curious.

However, this is a different situation, with only a handful of candidates to choose from, and a much more compact timeframe to choose them in.  We are in the heat of the most important primary season of my lifetime.  The Democratic Party has the opportunity to achieve a re-aligning victory in November over the Republicans.  They also have the opportunity to blow it, yet again.

Come this Saturday, the S.C. primary will likely decide whether Hillary still has a viable challenger in Obama.  Ten days after that, on Feb. 5, this nomination will be decided.  In the heat of this kind of contest over no less than the soul of the party, and, frankly, the country, I'm afraid I'm going to play The Obamanator more often than I'd like.  I just feel that passionately about his candidacy, and about the direction I believe he can take us.

In the next few days, I'll be posting a lengthy piece explaining in depth why I've come to support the senator from Illinois, and why I believe my readers should too.  In the meantime, I really welcome and appreciate the feedback.

Thank you for your open-minded and fair reaction to my comment.  I truly didn't mean to be offensive in anyway and I look forward to your longer piece on Obama.  I myself will gladly vote for him should he be the nominee, however I am voting for Edwards in the primary in an attempt to keep him in the race a little longer.  I believe this three way match is causing the candidates to think carefully about what voters truly want and about specific policy to address their concerns.

I'm still hoping that the Feb 5th primaries are unconclusive, particularly on the Republican side.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that there are a lot of politics going on apart from the presidential campaign.  For instance, Jay Rockefeller is feeling "cocky" about the odds of passage for Bush's telecom immunity bill.

Let's not loose sight of the larger political picture here, in the midst of all of the excitement about the presidential campaign.
