FOX News and Michelle

While apartment-hunting in Jersey today, I stopped off for a hot dog at the Hoboken PATH Station, and happened to catch a rare glimpse of FOX News on the TV above the stand.

Like the other cable networks, they were broadcasting wall-to-wall coverage of the Christie Brinkley divorce trial—obviously the most pressing issue in America today.  However, they decided to break from their coverage to note that Michelle Obama was speaking at an Economics Forum this afternoon:

"Michelle Obama, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, who recently said she was only now proud of her country, is speaking at an economics forum this afternoon.  Many Americans will be interested to hear her thoughts on the economy—particularly the American economy."

They then cut right back to the Christie Brinkley coverage, and never reported a word on Michelle's economic forum they had so desperately sought to introduce just a moment earlier.

It was just a brief glimpse at FOX News daily coverage, but given the rarity of my viewing, and the non sequitur nature of the reporting, I can only assume this is how they introduce Michelle Obama at every single news event she is associated with.

To be fair, later on FOX reported the following:

"Cindy McCain, the wife of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, who recently was caught stealing prescription drugs from a children's charity to feed her painkiller addiction, is speaking at a local chapter of the Ohio State Chamber of Commerce this afternoon."

In other news, there's this bridge I've been trying to unload...

You are shocked that a channel that ran a chyron under Michelle Obama that said "Obama's Baby Mama" would do this? On the plus side, I think the fact that they are being so nasty to Cindy McCain is more about the fact that conservatives aren't 100% on board with mccain yet than anything else.

I probably should have made it clearer I was joking about Cindy.  FOX reported no such thing about her, even though the drug story is quite true.  My point was that Cindy McCain has a far more controversial pedigree, which goes untouched by the media, yet one solitary misstatement by Michelle Obama has become her FOX News intro for the remainder of the general election.
